this is a stub, the article will be about the quick and dirty method of updating Drupal, no composer, no drush required.
do a full backup of website and database first!
easy steps on a Plesk server, but you can easily reproduce on another platform:
- download newest Drupal 8 from Drupal.org
- unpack on your PC
- navigate into the unpacked directory
- delete directories /sites /modules /themes
- zip the remaining files into a zip file
- upload to your site's webroot directory
- unpack in place, overwriting files
- visit update.php
that's quick and dirty updating Drupal 8 for sites that haven't been converted to composer. It might not be a 100% method, but works for me. Use at your own risk!
it probably works for Drupal 9 too, but I chose to use composer from the beginning to install and update Drupal 9
